How would you define the role of a Project Leader? Why is it important?
I think a Project Leader has comprehensive overview, plans and responds to customer needs to undertake a project to ensures customer satisfaction.
Something very important is communication and coordination, nearly 90% of our day goes by communicating with our teams and with our clients. Other important aspects are negotiation, analytical approach. Some Project Leaders will have more expertise in some specific areas like design or programming. But at the end it comes down to meet expectations in time, cost and quality.
At Paginar.net this means to carry out development of websites, Intranets or custom developments with the necessary technology, design, commitment and quality.
What, in general, are the needs of customers? And what do you have to do to make them happy?
With the customer you must have good communication. Listening, being attentive and anticipate their needs. You have to internalize and think a little bit as the customer. Ask what things would improve the product communication, communication with users, the visibility of their business.
There is no rule for all projects or for all customers. But good communication is basic to undertand what those needs are. Above all, the customer trusts us to carry out a task or project. So is up to us to gain his confidence through commitment and quality.
The keys are, then, communication, credibility and resolution in proper time and quality.
The best and worst about your job?
The best thing about my job as Project Leader is to see a project that goes well, when the client is happy and the team is proud. The satisfaction that comes out from the recognition of the customer or the company for the effort made is priceless.
The worst is when one fails to meet expectations. In these cases you have to learn from mistakes for the next time to be alert and prevented.
What should you consider for a technological project to go well?
Tips to consider in any project:
- Good organization: a project plan.
- Good choice of tool you use to develop the project: pros and cons of various options for further analysis.
- Confirmation of the team: the choice of successful resources to meet the needs that arise.
- Good analysis of usability: it must take into account the role of users.
- Adequate quality control: the control and testing should be performed on both the frontend and the backend.
Which projects would you show to your friends?
I would show some design projects for the Spanish insurance company Mapfre, such as the Mapfre Foundation Press Room (http://www.salaprensa.mapfre.com/listado-notas-prensa), or Motor Channel (http://www.motor.mapfre.com/coches) and recently presentations made with Prezi.
